Java Dance Show

On Monday morning we all went to the hall to watch the Java Dance Company perform. There were 4 dancers and they told a story using dance. One of the dancers was Gina who used to go to our school.
We all really enjoyed the performance.

Cross Country

Our whole school ran the cross country. We ran around the school. It was great fun and we ran really fast.

Birds

On Monday we went to science. We talked about birds and their feathers.
There is a sort of feather that is called a down feather. Down feathers keep birds warm.

On Monday we went to science and looked at feathers from birds. Birds have feathers for flying and for warmth. We drew some feathers.

We have started science with Sterling. We talked about natural disasters. We made volcanoes in the sandpit. It was great fun.

Kapa Haka

Every Thursday the whole school goes to the hall for Kapa Haka. We sing waiata and learn some Moari commands. Madsen takes us for Kapa Haka. We all love going.

Life Education Bus

The Life Education Bus visited school last week. Below are some of the reports about our visit.

On Monday Rooms 3, 4, 6, 15 and 2 went on the Life Education Bus with their class.
I liked the bit when Harold sang to us and when we got to look after Harold’s friends.

I went to the Life Education Bus. It was fun. I love Harold. He was my favourite puppet.
I learned where to put out things in our body. It was good. I loved it very much.

On Wednesday we all went to the Life Education Bus. We saw Victoria and Harold Giraffe and his friends. We learned to eat good stuff and we enjoyed talking with our friends and watching. I didn’t like the puzzle much because it didn’t look like a puzzle.

"The Wonky Donkey"

On Tuesday of last week we had visiting author, Craig Smith, come and talk to the school. Craig is also a song writer and has a CD of songs which is available at Whitcoulls. His book, “The Wonky Donkey,” was written from one of these songs. “The Wonky Donkey” has been shortlisted for the NZ Post Book Awards as one of the best picture books. The books which have made it to the finals will be displayed in the school library and children will be able to vote for their favourite next term.
Below are some reports from Room 6 about Craig Smith.

On Tuesday Craig Smith came to Clifton Terrace School and sang a song called . . .
“The Wonky Donkey.” It is funny because it has a stinky donkey in it. It starts off like this:
“I was walking down the road and I saw a donkey. Hee how.”

We went to the hall to see Craig Smith. He sang some songs and then he sang, “The Wonky Donkey.” It was very funny. I asked him, “Do you have a real donkey?” and he said, “No.”

Today we went t the hall to see Craig Smith and he sang some songs for us. My favourite song was “The Wonky Donkey.” He sang 5 more songs. Room 3 and Room 4 and Room 6 and Room 2 and Room 15 and Room 8 all came.

Rafts

Snakes read an article about making rafts from flax stalks.
Cherry-Ann collected all we needed to make them and helped us.
We tried them out in the swimming pool.
They were awesome!

School Triathlon

Last Friday we had our school triathlon. The Year 3 to Year 6 children ran, biked and swam. We started with a run and the went to the pool to swim two widths and then ran back to the finish line. It was a fun day and Room 6 did really well.

A NEW YEAR

Our school year has just begun with a new teacher and new class. At the moment we are in Room 14 as our classroom, Room 6, is being totally refurbished. We are hoping we can move in soon and unpack all the things in storage. We will put some photos of our new room on the blog when we move in.
We've been busy working out what groups we will be in for reading, writing and maths. We have also decided on the class rules we think will make our room a happy and safe place to learn and play. These are the rules we decided on.
